Plugins without FTP
A server with plugins is the simplest way to add an economy, land claims, teleports, minigames and grief protection to Minecraft, and players do not need to install anything. On Paper or Purpur you search for a plugin in the panel (the Modrinth database), click “Install”, restart the server and it works. The panel also shows which plugins have a newer version.
Which engine
Paper
The standard for plugins. Fast, stable, with a huge library of add-ons and frequent updates. The starting choice for 9 out of 10 servers.
Purpur
A Paper fork with extra options (such as configurable mob behaviour) and optimisations. For larger servers and admins who like digging into the config.
Spigot
The classic. Choose it only if you need an old plugin that does not work on Paper. Rarely the case in practice.
You change the engine and version in the panel, so if you start on Paper and a month later want Purpur, it is one click and a restart.

Paper or Purpur - which one for plugins?
Paper is the safe standard: fast, stable, and it supports all Bukkit/Spigot plugins. Purpur is Paper with extra configuration options and optimisations for larger servers. Start with Paper.
Do players need to install anything?
No. Plugins run only on the server side. Players connect with the regular Minecraft Java client.
Where do I install plugins from?
From the panel, through the Modrinth search. The panel also shows available updates for installed plugins. Plugins from outside Modrinth go into the plugins folder through the file manager or SFTP.
How many plugins can the server handle?
A dozen or so well-written plugins run without trouble on 4 GB. The problem is usually a single heavy plugin (for example, poorly configured land protection on a large world), not the number of plugins.
